Creative Solutions
Collaborating to provide innovative, feasible alternatives
A critical aspect of our mission is to enable large-scale change. We engage local businesses/organizations, schools, government departments, and residents in community-wide sustainability projects that allow us to have a greater impact on reducing the entire city’s carbon footprint. See what we’ve accomplished so far in our annual Green Reports.
Our goal is to create more adoptable solutions (Green Actions) for residents and businesses where they don’t exist today.
Food Waste Reduction
Collaborate with local restaurants and supermarkets, farms, nonprofit agencies, distribution centers, and local churches to divert excess edible food from the waste stream to food-insecure populations in an efficient and organized manner.
Urban Agriculture
Coordinating with area farms, higher educational institutions, nonprofit agencies, distribution centers, and off-takers to explore innovative approaches to dramatically increasing the amount of food grown locally year-round.
Community Solar
Collaborating with businesses, solar installers, and investors to configure solar arrays on commercial roof space to increase clean energy generation.
Compostable Take-out Containers
Working with local restaurants and compostable container suppliers to transition to 100% compostable containers within our city’s dining sector.
Heat Pump Adoption
Creating a financially viable model allowing homeowners and landlords to decrease their carbon footprint by migrating their heating systems to air- or ground-source heat pumps.
