Beverly Plant Swap
May

Beverly Plant Swap

Come and join us for Beverly's second annual plant swap at Obear Park on Sunday 19 May. This event is aimed at both experienced gardeners and those who are just getting started. Its mission is to create a vibrant, connected community in Beverly with more (native) flowers, fruit, and vegetables in all of our backyards.

How the swap works:
1. Bring healthy, pest-free plants to contribute - these can be seedlings, perennials that you've dug up and divided from your garden, house plants, and so on. Don’t worry if you don’t have anything. Come and start your garden adventure with us!

2. Label each plant. We find cut up yogurt pots work well as free labels.

3. Have fun! You don't need a plant to participate. Enjoy coffee from Beantrust, talk to gardening & sustainability experts (Green Beverly & Plant Magic), and hang with your Beverly neighbors!

More info to come.

Tour of Republic's Materials Recovery Facility

Tour of Republic's Materials Recovery Facility

See first-hand how Beverly's recycling system works by touring the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), affectionately knows as a "murph." Attendees must register ahead of time to access a waiver to bring on the day of the tour. First come first served, and we'll schedule a second tour if needed. Pre-tour meetup logistics will be decided with confirmed registrants.

For Attendees: Please wear closed-toes shoes and clothing that can be easily washed (it is very dusty). Masks welcomed for either Covid or because some may be sensitive the dusty air. We will be meeting at 5 Lakeland Park Drive in Peabody at the given time, then there is a 2 minute walk over to the recycling facility together. (Special arrangements can be made for people with physical limitations.)

At 5 Lakeland there is an office building, and outer and inner parking lots: feel free to park in the outer parking lot if there are too many cars next to the building. (We will be there to direct traffic.)

Please DO NOT go straight to the Greenworks facility; there are large trucks going in and out of there and can be dangerous. Plus, the broken glass in the parking lot could potentially pop your tires.

Between the Rains (film)

Filmed with stunning cinematography over four years, BETWEEN THE RAINS explores a childhood caught within a traditional culture that is a casualty of climate change. During a period of record low rainfall in northern Kenya, the Turkana tribe faces growing violent clashes with rival tribes and encroaching wild predators hunting their livestock. Kolei, a sensitive shepherd boy whose name translates to “living amongst the goats,” questions not only his path as a warrior, but also the erosion of the culture that has shaped every aspect of his life. With unprecedented and intimate access to the Turkana people, this moving coming-of-age story reveals the grave threats facing one of the world's oldest communities.
