Our food quality, access and choices are impacted by local, state and federal policies. Understanding what is being discussed by our representatives helps us guide their decisions. Stay informed or take an active advocacy role. Here are just a few resources.

National Information Sources:

  • FRAC (Food Research & Action Center) improves the nutrition, health, and well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger in the United States

  • FoodFix a publication about food policy in Washington and beyond

Advocacy:

Our elected officials count on us to keep them informed of what’s happening in our communities, schools, and workplaces. They want to hear why supporting farms and local foods are important to you.  Send an email, call, or write a letter/postcard! Find your State Representative and Senator: malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator

Advocacy Tips:

  1. Choose an issue you care about and research it.

  2. Learn about the the elected official you want to contact.

  3. When writing to a legislator, use your full name and address.

  4. Reference the bill name & number (HD for House/SD for Senate)

  5. Be clear and concise.

  6. Don't give up!
